Review

Lunocode is an Italian band. They released the "Last day of the Earth" EP in 2011 and then, with a new singer, released their debut album "Celestial Harmonies" in 2012. Lunocode always try to combine melancholy with aggression in their music. They do not fear sounding ethereal, or taking a more metal oriented approach. Lunocode take pride in following the strange path they have followed since the group's inception. The path in search of pure art is hard, but always worth following.

That is why, in 2012 they conceived a show, halfway between a theatrical monologue and a concert, with an actor reciting some spoken parts. This gave the band a chance to combine their love of acoustic guitars and a melancholy atmosphere with their interest in the universe and human nature, which always emerges in their lyrics. The show was called "C'è vita intelligente sulla Terra?" ("Is There Intelligent Life On Earth?") and, for the occasion, the band recorded the entire show live at the "Teatro di Anghiari" theatre.

After this magic night, the guys entered the studio to record a new version of each song on the show, with a more elaborate arrangement. Some songs were completely stripped down and rebuilt. Lunocode pursue creativity above all else. The band then put these two recordings together in the form of a double album, in a gorgeous digipack edition, with the same title as the theatrical show. In 2014 Lunocode signed with 7Hard, and the time to release their new double album has arrived.

"Is There Intelligent Life On Earth?" Lunocode ask, and who is brave enough to answer?

It was from this question that the idea took shape.

Is our world, technological, civilized, and organized according to precise, refined rhythms, devoted to the non-stop production and consumption of any type of object, animate or inanimate, with no time to waste, no time for trivial things... home, in reality, to intelligent life?

Is there intelligence on the planet earth?
That depends on how we want to define the word intelligence.

Intelligence is knowing how to build a rocket that will take us to the moon. Intelligence is knowing the secrets of the cell. Intelligence is the ability to build ever more powerful and ever smaller electronic devices. Intelligence is the ambition of men to have more and more.
Intelligence is giving value to material objects rather than people, feelings, emotions, and thought. Intelligence is forcing yourself, at an increasingly frenzied pace, to produce, produce, produce, get rich, exploit, slaughter, destroy, pollute, devastate, cut, kill, and not give a damn. Intelligence is ignoring everything that has no immediate commercial use. Intelligence.

But what if this were, rather than intelligence, stupidity?

And if this were, instead of humanity, bestiality?

And what if all of this, rather than progress, was deterioration?

Lunocode – Bio e presentazione dell’album
